The RoboJet AutoPrinter 100

Small-scale disc printers have become rather popular lately, since they allow small-scale users (advertising and PR agencies, small companies, etc.) to print an average amount of promotional discs in a very fast and easy manner, while at the same time keeping costs low. This is also the case with the Aleratec RoboJet AutoPrinter 100, but this device adds a little extra to the mix: it is fully automatic and can print up to 100 DVDs or CDs virtually unattended (hence the robot comparison from the title).

For the RoboJet, Aleratec has adopted the Drop-On-Demand Thermal Inkjet technology developed by Hewlett-Packard (HP), which allows the device to print in colors up to a resolution of around 4800x1200 optimized dpi and up to 16.7 million colors. Moreover, it can also print just in black and white, but at a resolution of around 600x600 dpi, with the size of the ink drop being of around 5 pl (picoliters).

The device from Aleratec uses a dual replacement cartridge system, namely HP56 black (19ml) / HP 57 tri-color (17ml), and works with direct-to-disc printing on inkjet printable 120mm DVDs and CDs. Moreover, the RoboJet is a totally integrated package, featuring a transparent protective door that allows viewing it in operation, and it is quite easy to work with, since all users have to do is simply open the box, connect one USB 2.0 cable, and install the software.

Aleratec's disc printer works very well with the Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems and will occupy a relatively low amount of space around the office, since it measures around 447 mm x 410 mm x 335 mm.

The RoboJet AutoPrinter 100 retails for around 2,000 US dollars, which is indeed a pretty steep price point, but the whole deal is somewhat "sweetened" by the contents of the sales package: HP27 black inkjet print cartridge (10ml); HP tri-color inkjet print cartridge (8 ml); 4 disc input tray holders; disc output tray; power cord; USB cable; printer software on CD (for Windows); Quick Start Guide; Users' Manual.
