Starting today, mobile phone users in India can purchase a new Android-based smartphone from Alcatel, none other than the Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+.

The handset was officially confirmed for this market last week, when Alcatel also announced that it would become available for purchase in the country exclusively via Flipkart.

Just as the retailer promised last week, the smartphone is now up for grabs on its website, with a price tag of Rs. 16,999 ($288/€211) attached to it, contract-free. The phone is now in stock, and those who will order it will receive their units within the next two or three business days, it seems.

We should also note that Flipkart has some special launch offers for its users, including the availability of preselected Flipkart eBooks worth Rs. 1,000 ($17/€12) for free, and extra 50% off on original Alcatel idol X+ flipcovers.

Moreover, those who will purchase the new device will find free Boom band and JBL earphones in the box when receiving their smartphones. The phone is available in Black and White, though the latter flavor will ship a bit later, it seems.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ looks like a great option for those users looking for high-end capabilities inside an affordable handset, that’s for sure.

The smartphone was launched with a 5-inch IPS touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD (1080p) resolution, at a 441 PPI pixel density, thus offering a great viewing experience to its users.

Moreover, the new OneTouch Idol X+ is powered by a 2GHz true octa-core processor packed inside, which will certainly offer appealing performance capabilities, especially since it was paired with 2GB of RAM.

The mobile phone features 16GB of internal memory, while also allowing users to include two SIM cards in it simultaneously. The dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) feature is paired with dual-standby capabilities, for increased flexibility.

On the back, the new Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ sports a 13-megapixel camera, which will offer full HD video recording capabilities, and which is paired with a 2MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

“The Alcatel Idol X+ delivers remarkable pictures with its 13 megapixel camera which is capable of breathtaking panorama shots,” the retailer notes on its website.

“Moreover, take selfies or immerse yourself in video chats with the phone's 2 megapixel camera. With the video stabilization feature, you can shoot smooth full HD videos with this Alcatel smartphone.”

The specs list of OneTouch Idol X+ also includes support for 3G networks (21 Mbps HSDPA; 5.76 Mbps HSUPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, and a 2500mAh battery that can deliver up to 16 hours of talk time on a 3G network, or up to 600 hours of standby time.

The mobile phone measures 69.1 x 140.4 x 8.1mm, weighs 125 grams, and runs under the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system right from the start. It also comes to the market with the entire set of usual sensors packed inside.
