Alcatel has just announced that its high-end OneTouch Idol 3 smartphone will land in Canada on June 30. The device will be available for purchase at all major carriers in the country, including Bell, TELUS and Videotron.

According to Alcatel, the Idol 3 will be the first smartphone in North America to come packed with the innovative security feature Eye-D, a biometric technology that uses eye print verification for secure authentication to unlock a user's device with a simple selfie.

It's also worth mentioning that the Idol 3 will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box. Also, the smartphone comes with unique features, such as a fully reversible user interface that makes the screen adaptive to be right side up even if the phone itself is upside down.

Hardware-wise, Alcatel Idol 3 is equipped with a 64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone packs 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

It packs 4G LTE support, as well as NFC connectivity

The Idol 3 sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Technicolor Color Enhance for greater viewing angles, even in direct sunlight.

On the back, the smartphone boasts a 13-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 8-megapixel camera with wide angle.

Last but not least, Alcatel Idol 3 is powered by a 2,910 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 600 hours of standby time or up to 13 hours of talk time.

“Idol 3 is changing customer expectations by redefining the flagship smartphone experience. With IDOL 3, we’ve partnered with top brands like Qualcomm, JBL and Technicolor to deliver the best in class experience for our customers at a price that’s considerably less than other flagship smartphones in the market.

“Others try to justify outrageous prices for their top devices and we’re out to show our customers they can get a device with the high-end features they want, at a price that won’t empty their wallet,” said Steve Cistulli, senior vice president & general manager of North America for Alcatel OneTouch.
