14 DAY TRIAL // After introducing the One Touch 995, Alcatel is about to debut two new handset targeting different market segments. The One Touch 918D is a budget-friendly Android smartphone, while the Alcatel 318D is a dual-SIM feature-phone.
Although the handset maker has yet to reveal the release dates of the phones, it looks like both are expected to arrive in stores within the next few weeks.
The folks over at UnwiredView spotted the One Touch 918D at Bluetooth SIG, which may indicate that Alcatel plans to release the handset by the end of the year.
Alcatel One Touch 918D is powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 262k colors.
Even though Alcatel confirmed earlier last month that its high-end One Touch 995 smartphone will receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade next year, it is highly unlikely that the same thing will happen with the One Touch 918D.
There are no details regarding the processor that powers the smartphone, but according to Bluetooth SIG, Alcatel One Touch 918D packs 150 MB onboard memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
The device is expected to go live in all regions of the world, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America.
HSPA (7.2Mbps downlink) and HSUPA (5.76M uplink) support are included as well, along with built-in GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 A2DP and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Software-wise, the Alcatel One Touch 918D will be delivered with Google Chrome and Opera mini (optional), and will provide access to more than 300,000 apps via Android Market.
In the same news, the second handset rumored to hit shelves by the end of the year, the Alcatel 318D is a candybar feature-phone.
Details on the phone’s specs sheet are scarce for the moment, but we know that this one will come with dual-SIM functionality.
