Wake up and get motivated

Health experts usually recommend working out in the morning or during the course of the day, and never at night before bedtime. Of the many time intervals we can choose for a little exercise, working out right after waking up is usually the ideal from more than one point of view. To help us with this, we now have My Workout Wake Up Call Alarm Clock, a regular alarm clock that blasts out motivational speeches.

Clearly, the idea of motivational messages is not new, no matter how disputed its efficiency is in the specialized media. However, what this product offers as a pleasant, fun way of waking up is having the alarm sound off and then be properly motivated by a trainer, as opposed to waking up to the sound of the weather forecast or some pop song we don’t even like. For $40, manufacturers say, anyone can start with their physical routine first thing in the morning.

“Good morning! This is your workout wake up call! It is a beautiful morning to wake up and workout! You know how great you are going to feel?! What a wonderful way to start today! Take a moment to wake up your body, while you are still in your bed. Please lie flat on your back and hug your knees into your chest. Please inhale deeply for three counts... and exhale for three counts. While you are there, imagine how great you will feel all day, having given yourself the gift of working out this morning. Again, hug your knees into your chest, keeping your lower back flat. Inhale deeply for three and exhale for three. Once more, inhale for three counts, giving your knees a big hug, exhale, and relax. Great! You will be glad you worked out at the beginning of the day, while you still have the chance. Taking care of ourselves is so important. Working out when we wake up gives us a better chance to take good care of ourselves, before the day starts taking over!” a pleasant woman’s voice says from the device by means of talking us into waking up and working out.

This special alarm clock can be extremely useful if we also consider that an older study showed that working out actually improved the mood for up to 12 hours, which means it’s safe to conclude perhaps that doing so early in the morning is the ideal way to get through the day without frowning. Physical exercise is also known to improve productivity at the workplace, so we really stand to win a lot and lose nothing in breaking a sweat early in the day.

“There are other studies that show there is acute improvement in mood after exercise, but we found those improvements are more durable than we thought. Daily exercise can improve your mood and mitigate some of the stressors of your day. It’s clear that exercise is critical for both physical health and mental health.” Jeremy Sibold, an assistant professor at the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science from the University of Vermont, was saying a while back about the long-lasting benefits of working out.
