Al Pacino makes rare TV appearance to promote new movie, “Danny Collins”

Al Pacino doesn’t do interviews that often, especially compared to actors from the younger generation, who have to hustle more for attention when they have a new movie out, but when he does, he makes it memorable.

The acting icon stopped by The Today Show some hours ago and spoke to Matt Lauer about his most recent role, in the film inspired by a true story, “Danny Collins.” You will find his segment embedded below, at the end of this post.

Collins is a ‘70s rocker who still leads the same lifestyle as he did back in his glory days, but he stumbles upon a letter from John Lennon to him that makes him want to double back and reconnect with the family he ditched on his way to the top.

In the interview, Pacino talks about how excited he was to play a character who could sing and dance so brilliantly, since he can do neither in real life, and how nervous he was when he had to do it in front of an audience.

You would think that at 74 years old and with over 48 years’ worth of experience, he would be past the point of getting stage fright, but apparently that’s what keeps a good actor on his toes and grounded.

“Danny Collins” also stars Jennifer Garner, Christopher Plummer and Bobby Carnavale, and is out now in select theaters in the US. Even though Pacino has had his hits and misses in recent years, this doesn’t look like one of those movies he did for a paycheck.

So, will you be seeing it in theaters?
