Airtel, part of Bharti Airtel telecommunication company with operations in 19 countries, has just announced the launch of international video calling service in India.

The newly launched service will connect Airtel customers with people from more than 227 countries around the world.

Airtel 3G mobile customers in India will now be able to leverage Airtel internet on 3G, as well as start international video calls and interact face to face with their friends, families and colleagues who are living abroad, thus instantly sharing experiences and information.

As we take the lead in launching International Video Calling on 3G in India, this marks the beginning of a new era of next generation communication in the country,” said Mr. Atul Bindal, president – Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel.

According to the carrier, the international video calling service will be available for 227 international geographies.

With the new service Airtel 3G customers living in India will be able to see and talk to his friends and relatives in USA, Canada, Bangladesh through video call at just Rs.14 per minute, while on the go.

In addition, Indian customers will also be able to make video calls to UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Oman but a slightly higher fee, Rs. 20 per minute.

Given the high demand of video calling services seen since the launch of Airtel 3G services, we are confident that our customers will see great value from the availability of this capability for international calls as well. Obviously, those who wish to make video calls should know that the new service requires both the caller and the called customer to have access to 3G network and own a device with a front-facing camera.
