Mercy Jets, a professional air ambulance company based out of Phoenix, Arizona, is adopting the iPad to automate the monitoring of patients’ vital signs and assist in recording patient interactions.

The company is now finalizing testing of iPad integration on its air ambulance flights with the end goal of ensuring complete continuity of care during the medical transport.

Mercy Jets has a custom iPad app that uses electronic medical record (EMR) technology allowing its medical team to access important patient care information, identify which procedures have been accomplished and what drugs have been administered to the patient.

The company believes that, thanks to Apple’s tablet computers, “This will increase the amount of time that the medical team can spend focusing directly on patient care while simultaneously reducing the possibility of misinterpretation by the receiving facility.”

The facility receiving the patient gets the same data, allowing healthcare providers on the ground to have up-to-date information as the patient arrives.

Commenting on their new release, John Bohn, president of Mercy Jets, said, "This enhances patient care continuity and eliminates the challenge of trying to decipher handwritten notes by care givers at the receiving end.”

"The automated system integrates nicely with our advanced medical equipment and allows us to ensure the best medical care in the industry," Bohn added.

“With the testing phase soon to be complete, the Phoenix-based medical transportation company will integrate the iPad technology with patient care records on its medical transport flights,” said Mercy Jets.

Mercy Jets specializes in medical transport with Complete Continuity of Care during emergency and non-emergency services to patients in worldwide destinations.

The company’s professional medical flight transportation teams include certified nurses, physician's assistants, doctors and paramedics who are said to receive the highest levels of training in their field.
