Only in Australia for now

The search giant Google updated the Australian flavor of Google Maps making the service embeddable in the search results. Basically, every time a new user searches the Internet for a certain business such as bars or restaurants, the search engine will automatically display a map above the results. Just like usual, the Australian side of Google Maps is the first one which receives the latest Google goodies so we should expect a global release in the upcoming weeks. In addition to this release, the Google officials announced that a new function will be officially rolled out in the upcoming days that will allow the consumers to share a map using their page or a blog.

"It seems straightforward but this kind of experience is not easy to find on other mapping sites. Type three words, find a result, get driving directions? I challenge you to find that on any of the other sites in Australia as easily. Now when you do searches for local businesses on Google.com, the interesting local results appear as well -- with a map and with the most relevant places highlighted," Google senior product manager, Carl Sjogreen, said according to ZDNet Australia.

"If you had a set of local results you wanted to share, embedding that in another site was a little bit tricky -- you had to sign up for a developer key and write some Javascript code. This makes it easy to take a Google map and make it accessible from any other Web site," said Sjogreen.

Google Maps has always been one of the top products at the Googleplex because it is able to bring a considerable amount of consumers to the company. The recent release of Street View, a special function that provides street-level panoramas, boosted the number of Google Maps users as the function kept the product in spotlights for weeks.
