14 DAY TRIAL // While Microsoft is working with developers and companies to bring more apps in the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store, some top names decide to pull their apps completely, most likely because of the dropping market share of Microsoft's mobile platform.
After Bank of America, which removed its app from the store last week, another important company does the same, although fewer users are expected to be impacted by this decision.
VEVO has recently announced that its app is no longer available in the Windows Phone Store, and while it hasn't provided any reason for this removal, it has explained that users who still want to watch their videos can find them on YouTube.
"Removed permanently"
VEVO says that only the Windows Phone app was removed from the store, so those on Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 can continue using its official client just like before.
Here's VEVO statement in full, as published on its website:
"The Vevo app for Windows Phone has been permanently retired. However, there are two ways that you can continue enjoying Vevo content on your Windows phone:
1. Use the mobile web version of Vevo.com on your phone’s browser. 2. Use YouTube’s app to view Vevo videos.
The app will still be available on Windows 8.1 for tablets and PCs. Thank you for using Vevo."
Needless to say, some people weren't using VEVO at all, and watching their videos on YouTube is much easier, but their app removal is living proof that some developers still can't see the opportunity in developing apps for Windows Phone.
Snapchat is another famous example as far as Windows Phone is concerned, as an official client is not yet available for users of Microsoft's mobile platform, while third-party clients have been banned as well.
Sources say that Microsoft is working with several companies to bring more apps on Windows Phone, and the upcoming Windows 10, which will launch on PCs, tablets, and smartphones, will be a game changer in this regard.
