Representatives of Spain’s Interior Ministry revealed that the Civil Guard Police in the African enclave of Melilla discovered an illegal migrant from Mali hiding in a suitcase.

A 39-year-old Moroccan national was approached by Spanish border police as he tried to enter Melilla because they noticed the man was dragging a very large and oddly-shaped suitcase through a pedestrian checkpoint. He refused to stop and ran away, leaving the officers with the suspicious suitcase.

When they opened the luggage, the officers found a 19-year-old illegal migrant who was apparently attempting to cross the Moroccan border into Spanish territory.

The incredible moment when police unzipped the suitcase to find a man stuffed inside was caught on camera and posted online. You can see the incident in the video embedded above.

Daily Mail says both suspects were arrested and they are currently in police custody until further notice, as reported by Spain's Interior Ministry.

Every year thousands of would-be migrants attempt to enter the European Union via Spain's African enclave. On Friday, more than 200 sub-Saharan migrants broke into the Spanish enclave scaling the triple 20-foot (6-meter) fence that separates it from Morocco.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, urged the European Union to offer Spain and other countries that lie on Europe's external border more support in combating illegal immigration.
