ZTE, one of the most successful Chinese handset manufacturers, and Telefonica have announced the availability of the ZTE Light Pro Android tablet in Spain.

Although the tablet is exclusively available in Spain, Telefonica might soon introduce the Light Pro in the UK via O2 carrier.

ZTE Light Pro sports Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and can be obtained for prices ranging between 0 and 19 euros for individuals and 0 and 119 euros for businesses, with contract.

This makes the Light Pro one of the cheapest Android tablets available on the market. However, this comes at the expense of features, as the Light Pro's hardware is nowhere near decent.

First of all, the Light Pro is equipped with a low-power 600 MHz processor and runs Android 2.2 Froyo.

In addition, it packs 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, microSD slot for memory expansion, integrated GPS, a 3-megapixel camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

Furthermore, the tablet comes with a 7-inch HVGA multi-touch screen and offers users full access to social networking service such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as Google Apps, including YouTube, Gmail and Google Maps.

The Light Pro can be synchronised with a PC using the USB cable included in order to exchange emails and update calendars and tasks.

According to the carrier, this is just the first of a series of devices that will be released at competitive prices intended to make the use of tablets more popular and raise awareness of the features they offer among Android fans.

On related news, ZTE confirmed that it is working on Light Plus Gingerbread tablet, which is expected to be launched some time in September in Europe for about €250.

Some of the features of the ZTE Light Plus include: 1GB ROM, 512MB RAM, 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8255 processor, 3.2-megapixel camera, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as microSD support.
