Indian mobile users in search of affordable handsets have now a new option, as LG has just released the entry-level LG KP106B in the Asian country.

Coming in a candybar form factor, LG KP106B is nothing to get too excited about, as its design is a simple one and its features are only on the basic side. The new handset brings: dual-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 MHz), a 1.5 inch CSTN display with 128 x 128 pixels and 65K colors, FM radio, polyphonic ringtones, speakerphone, support for both English and Hindi, calculator, unit converter, world clock, alarms, stopwatch and an internal memory that allows the storage of up to 300 phone numbers and 100 text messages.

The KP106B is both slim and lightweight, measuring 101 x 46 x 13 millimeters and weighing only 63 grams (without battery, most probably).

"By introducing this new basic phone on the market, we intend to cater to the needs of our entry level consumers who are looking for a handset which has a perfect blend of looks, features and brand name," said Anil Arora, Business Group Head at LG Electronics India. "The KP106B has a great battery life and hence [it is] an exceptionally superior phone in its segment and we are very positive that it will delight our customers."

LG KP106B is said to be available in India as of now, for a retail price of only 2,000 INR (meaning about $48 or 31 Euros). This low price should allow about anyone to buy the handset.

Except for India, the new LG candybar is also available on several markets across Latin America (Brazil, for example), under the name of LG KP106. This makes it clear that LG has created the phone for emerging markets and it will probably not release it in Europe or North America.
