In addition to the mid-range Liquid E3, Acer also announced an affordable smartphone ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, no other than the Acer Liquid Z4.

The new mobile phone sports a 4-inch touchscreen display, but should prove a great option for users on a budget, looking to browse the web, access social networks and snap photos.

Liquid Z4 went official today with a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, as well as with 4GB of internal memory. No info on the amount of RAM inside the device has been provided, but we suspect it features around 512MB.

Acer also unveiled the new handset with a 5-megapixel camera on the back, with LED flash, as well as with Wi-Fi connectivity, and with built-in GPS receiver.

“The 5MP camera is great for those who love snapping away whilst on the go. With its 5 elements f2.4 lens, instead of the traditional 4 elements, and auto-focus, pictures appear even sharper and more vivid than before,” Acer notes.

The new device is only 9.7mm thick and weighs 130 grams, while packing a front speaker with DTS Sound technology, which should provide users with a richer experience.

Acer Liquid Z4 comes to the market with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, and with the AcerRAPID design, which should allow for better one-hand control when it comes to various actions: wake-up the screen, take a picture, launch apps from home screen, and the like.

The mobile phone sports a series of pre-defined custom profiles aimed at delivering a better experience to different type of users. Called Quick Mode profiles, they include:

Basic Mode: for youngsters, with fixed call and text functions; Easy Mode: messages, radio, weather, magnify, clock, quick-call contacts to make life easier; Classic mode: all main functions in a simple and organised layout for first-time smartphone users; Keypad mode: for people who primarily use voice and need their keypad right away.

The handset also sports the AcerFloat User Interface and AcerCloud, the same as the Liquid E3. Acer Liquid Z4 will arrive on shelves in Europe starting with April, in two color versions, Essential White and Titanic Black, featuring a price tag of €99 ($136).
