With all the economic turmoil and the growing DRAM prices, it can be said that creating a system, mobile or otherwise, which provides a decent performance at a good price point is not the easiest task in the world. Nevertheless, it is not impossible, at least not for a market leader like HP, as it becomes quite obvious when looking at the Compaq Presario CQ62, a notebook more affordable than certain netbooks.

The Presario CQ62 is centered around a mobile central processing unit (CPU) developed by Advanced Micro Devices. To be more specific, there is a choice among the V120 (single-core 2.2GHz), Athlon II N330 (dual-core 2.3GHz), Phenom II N830 (triple-core 2.1GHz), Phenom II N620 (dual-core 2.8GHz) and Turion II P520 (2.3GHz).

The processors aren't the only thing of note, of course. Though the starting price of the entire machine is well under $400, HP still managed to somehow cram 4GB of RAM and up to 500GB of storage. The integrated Radeon HD 4250 graphics is also available, as is the option of adding the more powerful Mobility Radeon HD545v discrete solution. Regardless of the GPU, a 15.6-inch High Definition HP LED Brightview Display with a maximum resolution of 1,366 x 768 will make short work of most multimedia files, whether stored internally or on a DVD/Blu-ray disk.

Other specifications of the device include a webcam, a Wireless-N Card with or without Bluetooth, a 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, an optional 5-in-1 card reader, three USB 2.0 ports and a Full-size keyboard with One touch launch keys and Action keys. The HP Compaq Presario CQ62 is available for order through the official Compaq webstore, for as little as $379.99. Finally, regardless of the components selected, the computer comes pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system.
