The development team at Beamdog might be best known for having launched the Enhanced Edition of both the first and the second Baldur’s Gate, which remade the titles in order to work on modern machines, but the studio wants to show that it can create entirely new content and is announcing a new Adventure Y project.

The game is designed to explore the Sword Coast of the Baldur’s Gate universe in order to create a new adventure powered by the Infinity Engine, designed to link the story of the two already existing titles.

The announcement explains, “Keep an eye on the Beamblog in late spring for announcements regarding the content and release date of Adventure Y. We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before. If you’re looking for more information on Adventure Y, check out these pictures which were mysteriously leaked to the forums.”

A lot of fans will be very happy to hear that more Baldur’s Gate content is being added, but it’s unclear whether the Beamdog team is planning to deliver an entirely new title or just a short adventure.

The use of the Infinity Engine means that gamers will probably have to create a party and then explore the world in order to complete adventures, while going through turn-based tactical battles.

Another aspect that is unknown is whether the developers are planning to bring back familiar characters or if all the content they are creating is entirely unique.

Beamdog is also considering Baldur’s Gate III

The developers are also thinking about a project that will arrive after Adventure Y, which is currently set to get more details later in 2015.

The studio is also exploring the possibility of creating a full-fledged Baldur’s Gate III, which might use the new version of Dungeons & Dragons.

Beamdog explains, “But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a 5th edition game. That doesn’t mean the opportunity will never arise, though, so we’re preparing by starting a tabletop 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game here in the office.”

The team is at the moment playing the tabletop version and might offer more updates in the future.
