It appears that, though manufacturers of electronics, in this case tablets, don't always provide all features that customers may want, other parties can succeed where they didn't, much in the way that MoDaCo just dealt with the Advent Vega.

The Advent Vega tablet is one of the slates that actually came out not too long ago, although it managed to sell out in a few hours.

It is, basically, a 10.1-inch slate based on the ARM architecture, in this case the NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC (system-on-chip).

Its display has support for capacitive touch input and has a native resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels.

Its maker also threw in 512 MB of Flash storage, a microSD card slot, HDMI, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11 b/g WiFi and a 2-cell battery.

All of these parts are packed inside a frame measuring 275 x 178 x 13.6 mm and run the Android 2.2 operating system.

Unfortunately, the product does not have access to a certain very important database of apps, namely Google's Android Market.

Fortunately, it seems that the folks over at MoDaCo decided to cook up a special software that will allow the Advent Vega to not only access the application store, but also several other services.

The list includes, among other things, Gmail, Maps with Street View, Calendar, Car Home and Voice Search, all of this through a custom ROM, v1.04 to be exact.

A certain post on the MoDaCo forums contains not only the link to the relevant file that needs to be downloaded, but also the full list of instructions on how to set it up.

Those willing to play around with the software of the Vega media slate, thus, need only stop by this page.

Those that were thinking about buying a tablet and are more eager now that this sort of access is possible need only go here and part with £249.
