The times when you just had to grab a guitar and play are long gone, although folk music and other styles that employ only acoustic instruments didn't slip underground and still attract the attention of a large number of people. As time goes by, processing your electric guitar's sound becomes more and more accessible, and the computer becomes a trustworthy helper for more and more musicians, professionals and amateurs alike, all over the world. Today, I have some interesting news for all of you interested in using an advanced guitar effect processor to achieve the best results possible at this time...

At the end of last week, IK Multimedia announced a new product called StompIO, a USB controller that allows you to control the power of AmpliTube in real time and managing to deliver exactly the same feeling as a traditional guitar floor processor. Now, you can use thousands of amp settings and effects without having to look at the computer screen or even touch a keyboard or a mouse, since the effects are now controlled in the same way normal floor processors or stomps are used with a guitar or bass rig.

StompIO features 10 built-in switches and 6 external configurable pedal/switch controls, offering more control over your effects than anything else. Two large displays for preset numbers and parameters are included, while the 6 rotary encoder knobs give you instant access to any AmpliTube parameters.

The number of built-in settings included is impressive, with over 4,000 presets, 20,000 amp combinations and 32 effects on two rigs. The metal construction and a cable safety handle have been included into the design for your protection.

To use StompIO with an Apple computer, you need to be running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later and have at least a Power Mac G4 at 866MHz or faster, 512MB of RAM, 1024X768 screen resolution and a free USB port. While pricing has not been communicated yet, it is known that the package will include the full version of AmpliTube 2 and a little more...
