14 DAY TRIAL // An army of Angels descended upon London last night, for the annual, insanely anticipated Victoria’s Secret show. Well, it wasn’t really an “army,” but there were 47 of the hottest models in the world right now, 2 of which got to wear the fabulous Fantasy Bras at the closing of the show.
Each year, Victoria’s Secret has the Fantasy Bra designed especially for this event: the piece is so expensive and gorgeous that it requires its own bodyguard, if not actually more. For the 2014 edition of the show, we have a feeling VS upped up security by a lot.
Not one, but 2 Fantasy Bras
This year, VS had Angels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio each wear a version – Adriana in blue and Alessandra in bright red. The two walked on stage towards the end of the show, holding hands as Ed Sheeran performed one of his most beautiful ballads.
A video with snippets from the performances of the night is included below. The VS show doesn’t air on TV until later this month, so this is actually a collage of videos shot by guests on their mobile phones: the quality of the video and audio leaves a lot to be desired, but you know what they say, beggars can’t be choosers.
And beggars would certainly never afford this year’s VS Fantasy Bra! Each was designed by Mouawad jewelers and is believed to have cost about $2 million (€1.62 million), because it included thousands of rubies, diamonds, and sapphires set in place with 18-carat gold.
Now, that’s the kind of bra you don’t just throw on when you’re leaving for work. Reports online note that each piece took over 1,300 hours to make because, of course, the precious gems are inserted onto the bra manually.
An honor
Getting to wear the Fantasy Bra is no small trifle: whereas most models working in the industry are said to be dreaming of one day becoming Angels, those who are Angels get to dream of the honor of one day wearing the Fantasy Bra.
Seeing how Alessandra and Adriana are two of the highest rated and highest paid supermodels in the world, it’s no surprise they were chosen for this honor. What is surprising this year is the decision to have 2 Fantasy Bras.
“It’s like a highlight really of the show, the fantasy bra, and every year the models, we always get nervous to see who is going to get to wear the bra,” Adriana Lima said last month during a VS event.
“This year it’s really exciting because it’s the first time that we’re going to have two Fantasy Bras on the fashion show. I’m honored to be here with Alessandra, doing the show, walking the runway together. I cannot wait,” she gushed.
