Chicago's Brookfield Zoo is now home to a too-cute-for-words baby grey seal that was born at this facility on the very first day of this year.

Keepers detail that the pup arrived bright and early in the morning, at around 7 a.m. local time. It was born to 10-year-old Lily, and it is a male.

At birth, the baby seal tipped the scale at little over 25 pounds (11.3 kilograms). However, its caretakers estimate that, come February, it will surely weigh at least three times as much as it did when it first arrived into this world.

Provided that it manages to nurse a tad more from its mom and also develops a sweet tooth for fish at around three weeks of age, it might even quadruple its weight over the course of the following few weeks.

For the time being, both the calf and its mom live in an off-exhibit enclosure, Zoo Borns reports. Visitors to the zoo will probably get the chance to see it once it turns about one month old.
