14 DAY TRIAL // Adobe announced recently that it would remove at least one Android application from Google Play Store, effective May 28.
The application known as Photoshop Touch is still available for purchase for $4.99, but since it will be removed, we don't recommend getting it anymore.
“Sometimes building for the future means we need to make hard choices and today I am also announcing that we are discontinuing Photoshop Touch. For those of you who have been using Photoshop Touch, thank you and please continue creating amazing work with it.
“While it will no longer be available in stores as of May 28th and we won’t ship further updates, it will remain completely functional on your devices for the foreseeable future,” said Scott Belsky, Adobe’s VP of Products, Community and Behance.
The good news is Adobe will launch new applications that are meant to help users make the transitions to new photo editing tools. Unfortunately, Adobe will only launch the new photo editing apps on iOS for the moment.
No Android apps launching soon, but Adobe actively working on something
There's still hope for Android users since Adobe confirmed that they are “actively developing new mobile applications for Android and will share those” with us very soon. How soon that is we can't tell, but at least we know they are working on something that will eventually be released in Google Play Store.
For those who own Photoshop Touch for Android and paid for it, Adobe announced that there would no further updates to the application, which means no bug fixes or other OS updates.
However, Photoshop Touch owners will still be able to use the application for the foreseeable future. It's also worth backing up all your work, as well as the app, since there's no telling what will happen after it's removed from Google Play store.
