Software giant Adobe has just announced the release of a new flavor of its Adobe AIR solution, namely Adobe AIR 2.5.1, in preparation for the arrival of a new iteration of Android, namely Gingerbread.

It appears that the announcement is meant not only to make users aware of the availability of this new software solution, but also to confirm rumors that the new Android version would become official in the very near future.

Previous rumors suggested that Google might be set to make the Gingerbread SDK available for download as soon as tomorrow, but nothing was officially confirmed for the time being.

“With the anticipation of the Android Gingerbread OS update, we will be delivering an update release for AIR for Android (2.5.1) that will be available on Android Market on Tuesday November 9th,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

“This new release will address compatibility issues and be optimized to run on the Gingerbread OS update,” the post continues.

Application developers are encouraged to update their software solutions to offer compatibility with the new AIR 2.5.1, as well as with the upcoming Gingerbread OS.

“If you are interested in helping us drive rapid adoption and proliferation of this latest release, we recommend that you update your application to require AIR 2.5.1 to help drive users back to Android Market for your update and the update release of Adobe AIR,” Adobe announced.

According to Adobe, in case users receive Gingerbread before the update to AIR 2.5.1 runtime was performed, applications based on it will quit unexpectedly and will show an error message.

“In cases where a user receives the Gingerbread OS update before updating to the AIR 2.5.1 runtime, they will receive a native dialog on load stating that the application has quit unexpectedly and your application will fail to load,” the company notes.

The new Adobe AIR 2.5.1 was made available for download via the Android Market.
