Not even a day into the release of version 1.3.3 RC2, Adium is at its final 1.3.3 release adding tons of changes, major and small, as well as bug fixes. Adium, the popular IM app for Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard, is free to download and use for as long as you wish.

According to the changelog for Adium 1.3.3, major changes include:

· Fixed a crash when using XMPP gateways and removing contacts. · Switched to the Pidgin-facebook plugin for Facebook connectivity, which should resolve several issues with Facebook and improve the interaction between Adium and Safari when both are logged into Facebook. · Automatically send messages to offline contact when offline messaging is supported rather than prompting to send now / send later. · Fixed updating the list of users in a groupchat in many situations. · Tweaked the behavior of standard contact list type-to-search. · Fixed ICQ aliases storage on the server. · Fixed problem of events being recorded with wrong contact. · Fixed visual glitch that made creating a SameTime account impossible in some localizations. · Tab completion of names in groupchats is now case-insensitive.

Developer Adam Iser was able to update a Greek localization, as well as the German, French, Russian and Slovenian localizations of Adium. Chat Transcript fixes, Chat window fixes and other minor fixes have also made their way into this release.

Adium replicates many of the features (and the look) of Apple's own IM client, iChat. Adium combines an array of IM protocols, such as AOL Instant Messenger (including ICQ and .Mac), Jabber (including Google Talk), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Novell Groupwise and Lotus Sametime. The IM client also gives users the possibility to connect with multiple types of accounts at the same time, combining all their friend groups into one big list. Supported buddy icons include AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! Adium has a customizable appearance as well.

You may also want to look into GameBoy Sounds for Adium, an application developed by Nadim Kobeissi that replaces Adium's standard soundset for a number of events. The application adds GameBoy-specific sounds replacing Adium's standard soundset for events such as Buddy Sign In, Buddy Sign Out, Send Message, Receive Message, Connect, Disconnect, New Chat, File Transfer Requested, and File Transfer Complete.
