Developed by Adam Iser and Evan Schoenberg, Adium is a fast, fun, and free instant messaging client which supports most existing IM protocols. The application has been recently updated, fixing tons of bugs and nasty glitches reported by users worldwide. Adium has added new functionality. Some details on both aspects are available below.

Adium is a free instant messaging (IM) client for Mac OS X users, which replicates pretty much all the features (and the look) of Apple's own IM client, iChat. Adium combines an array of IM protocols such as AOL Instant Messenger (including ICQ and .Mac), Jabber (including Google Talk), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger (including Yahoo! Japan), Bonjour (compatible with iChat), Gadu-Gadu, Novell Groupwise and Lotus Sametime. The free IM client gives you the possibility to connect with multiple types of accounts at the same time, combining all your friend groups into one big list. Adium also sports a Mac-like appearance, which makes it blend perfectly with the Aqua interface. You can also customize the look and feel of Adium to great extent.

Before releasing Adium, 1.3.1, Adam Iser and Evan Schoenberg included a complete redesign of the Contact Inspector, in Adium 1.3.0. A new search field in the Standard Contact List window and a Facebook Chat service were also added. The switch to MSN-Pecan was finally realized, and other "major performance improvements" summed 1.3.0 up back in August.

With Adium 1.3.1 on the scene, the development team can confirm almost two dozen fixed bugs (full changelog here), as well as a few tweaks and enhancements, including,

- Edges between multiple displays no longer trigger showing hidden contact list (#10204) - Removed $$ emoticon (#10949) - Update Danish, German, and Hungarian localizations

Adium is free to download and use on your Intel / PPC Mac running OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later. You may grab the latest version of the software here.
