Star still refuses to be labeled, says his style is not new

Ever since he first walked on stage at the American Idol, Adam Lambert made himself noticed for various things, from his incredible voice (and vocal range) to his style of dress. In the latest issue of Vman Magazine, in the “How to Dress Like a Pop Star” feature, the singer says labels continues to stick with him though this would be the last thing he wants.

For starters, Lambert says, there is absolutely no reason for people to associate his fashion style with who he is in his personal life. Fashion choices do not reflect choices in his love life, he adds, saying “crazy” doesn’t necessarily have to be the one way to describe him. On the contrary, for his look, he draws inspiration from fashion icons of the past, including David Bowie, to whom he’s been repeatedly compared in the media.

Adam Lambert simply loves fashion and he loves to dress up and, if possible, to do something that has not been done before or, at the very least, that people would not expect of him. Still, that’s not new, he says. “What I do has been done before. It’s glam. I’m inspired by the ’70s and ’80s. Bowie is a huge influence. So are hair bands. […] Our society is more fearful, I guess. And they don’t party enough. Everyone was partying in the ’80s,” Adam explains for Vman.

As AceShowbiz informs, come January 31, Adam Lambert will act as fashion correspondent for ET on the red carpet at the 2010 Grammy Awards. As such, he will get to put all his fashion skills to test and on full display, though one thing he says he won’t do is be mean with stars walking down the red carpet. “I’ll be ok. I love clothes, I love fashion. I pay attention to that stuff. I’m a big fan of most of the people that will be there. I’m overly honest, so that will probably show through. I won’t be mean though. I’m not mean,” Adam says of the big night.

Below is a video of Adam Lambert’s photoshoot for Vman. Until the magazine comes out (on newsstands on January 28) with photos of Adam looking very dapper in a white shirt and black tie, this will have to do.
