Adam Lambert, a favorite with many American Idol fans, would like the focus to be on his music and not his personal life

Speculation has it that Adam Lambert, or Glambert as he came to be known for his glitzy and theatrical performing style, lost the American Idol title to competitor Kris Allen either because he was robbed of it (with a little help from AT&T) or because of his orientation. Lambert, as far as he’s concerned, is to be bothered by neither of this as he makes sure to dodge all questions in this sense – just like he does here, in one of his most recent interviews.

Sitting down with Matt Mitovich from TV Guide to talk of his plans for a music career, share tips on wearing eyeliner (also known now as guyliner, as in, eyeliner for guys) and makeup, Lambert was inevitably faced with the eternal question of the “elephant” in the room. Staying true to everything he’s said on the topic so far, this time too, Adam prances around the question in what is being described as a most teasing yet incredibly smart manner.

Mitovich: Have there been ridiculously overt, roundabout ways to get at you about the “elephant in the room?”

Lambert: “They’ve been actually straightforward, actually, to which I go.. “heh, uh.” Yeah, so. That elephant, man, it’s pink, isn’t it? It’s pretty obvious that Lambert refuses to be categorized by the media both in terms of his personal preferences and in those of his music, as we were also telling you yesterday. Although he only came in second on the eighth season of the popular singing competition, Adam has plans to change the music industry as we’ve known it until now – and, from what the fans are saying, he actually stands pretty good chances of doing that as well.

In this sense, the singer was saying in an interview that his album would certainly surprise everybody because he planned to make it more like a blend of styles than like a material that could easily fit just one music genre. “My view of the record industry is that it’s a little too specific lately. The labels tend to try to put one box around every artist and keep them in one genre. We don’t have to go about it that way. Obviously, we want the album to have a cohesive sound. But I think it can kind of be a collection of different styles with me at the center of it [as] the common thread. I don’t want to do one specific genre. I’m more about fusion.” Lambert was revealing, adding that he saw his album more like a “rock-pop-electronic-dance thing.”

As of now, no release date has yet been set for the album. For the pink elephant interview, as well as to hear Adam Lambert describe his life post-Idol, see the clip below.
