It’s been weeks that Adam Lambert fans have been on their toes, in anticipation of what the American Idol star dubbed his most psychedelic and most awesome video to date, for the single “If I Had You.” The waiting is now over, as the video has just premiered on VH1 and Adam’s official website – and it’s just as glamorous and fun as promised, MTV says in a review of the release.

As we also reported on several past occasions, for the “If I Had You” vid, Adam teamed up with some of his best friends, dancers and acrobats, in order to create this magical world where, as the song also says, differences in riches, achievements and orientation no longer matter. The result is a very fun and campy video that sees Adam strut his stuff like only he knows how to, and even bust a few, very well-choreographed moves. All in all, MTV says, Adam promised an awesome video and he’s just delivered it.

“Clearly, Lambert was thinking big with the song, which meant that it needed an equally epic video. Early sneak peeks had him rocking spiked shoulder pads and gallivanting through a forest, and Lambert himself promised that things would get ‘kind of psychedelic.’ And on Monday (June 14), we finally got to see the finished project, an over-the-top affair tha’ts, yes, kind of psychedelic and even a tad bit political. Though mostly, it’s just a pretty awesome Euro-pop video,” MTV says.

“The clip opens with Lambert – in a leather duster coat and gloriously braided pseudo-rattail – storming his way down a forest path. Whether he and director Bryan Barber intended it to or not, the scene recalls Men Without Hats’ classic video for ‘The Safety Dance’ (all that’s missing is the lute-playing little person). From there, Lambert discoverers a clearing in the forest, one packed with party people – of all races, colors, creeds and proclivities, naturally – who are all in the midst of a totally excellent celebration. (Most of said party people are actually Lambert’s friends, from his days performing with LA’s ‘Zodiac Show.’) Overtaken, Lambert has no choice but to join in on the fun, and from there, things get psychedelic, all brightly blurring colors and whooshing chemtrails and, uh, Allison Iraheta,” the review further reads.

The message of the video is as clear as the one included in the song: if one finds and holds on to true love, nothing else matters. On a larger scale, Adam’s message is that mankind as a whole can put differences aside and just learn to be happy, MTV believes – a bold and probably impossible dream, but a beautiful one nonetheless.
