American Idol is suffering, after the previous season kept fans on their toes, mostly because of the tight competition between winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert. In this context, bringing the latter on the show to mentor the Top 8 finalists couldn’t but be a wonderful idea, which is precisely what producers thought too, as Entertainment Weekly has learned.

Said and done: Adam will be on the show on April 13 to mentor the contestants and infuse some much-welcome glitter into a rather lackluster television competition, says the aforementioned publication. So far, the theme of the episode has not yet been announced, but chances are high that it might be something to do with rock ’n’ roll, since, in the end, that’s what Lambert does best.

“Adam Lambert will serve as guest mentor on the April 13 episode of American Idol, a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment confirms exclusively to EW. Internet buzz began swirling this afternoon that Sony Music reps had contacted selected radio stations with the announcement that last year’s runner-up would advise season 9’s Top 8 contestants, and then perform his current single ‘Whataya Want From Me’ on the April 14 results-show telecast. There’s no official word yet on what theme the contestants will tackle during Lambert’s visit,” EW informs.

“Lambert as mentor should provide a glittery adrenaline shot to an Idol season that’s struggled to find its water-cooler mojo. Adam, perhaps more than any former contestant, should be able to help Idol’s low-key crop of current contenders add some much-needed drama to their performances. Plus, what better way to promote Adam’s single (currently lodged at No. 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100) and planned summer tour?” the same e-zine further says.

One argument that non-fans are likely to use, it is further being stated, is that Adam himself is not really in a position to mentor contestants, since he too is just one year fresh off the competition. On the other hand, who better to compensate for lack of experience with knowledge of what it’s like to be on Idol than Adam, EW also points out.
