The most terrible and, at the same time, the most awesome artwork ever

Adam Lambert is bringing glam black, and he’s not just saying that for the sake of making conversation. It’s not without a very good reason that fans call the American Idol runner-up Glambert, and it’s not without reason that they love him to death, as they know he makes all boring, safe, plain things redundant, zaps them away – perhaps to that far-away galaxy he comes from on the recently unveiled cover for the “For Your Entertainment” album.

Critics agree that this cover, first released on Lambert’s official webpage, is simultaneously the most terrible and the most awesome piece of artwork of modern times. This is not just a very tacky cover that reeks of ’80s extravaganza with clear hints of alien life and unspoken tributes to Michael Jackson (the glove) and Prince (the purple lighting). This is a piece that will become a cult classic and on which we’ll look back with pride when we’re older to remember how we once were. This is also a piece that stamps its foot down and says down with standards, patterns and stereotypes – glam is back and it’s here to stay.

The cover is nothing short of outrageous, from Adam’s electric blue hair to his mesmerizing gaze and heavy makeup, and ending with the vague hint that he’s not wearing a T-shirt and the surreal, starry backdrop. And to think that, in the hands of someone less skilled than Lambert, this could have actually been boring, critics say. The shot was taken in August this year in Los Angeles by photographer Warwick Saint, so fans know now who to thank for this amazing piece.

Speaking of the tributes Adam seems to be paying to the likes of Michael and Prince in the photo, Music-Mix says this is yet another thing fans love Adam for: he doesn’t like to beat around the bush. “Clearly, the season 8 runner-up has no shortage of (formerly brunet, now cerulean) ambition, and whether you think Adam is deliciously gutsy or ridiculously presumptuous for subtly inserting himself into that A-list galaxy, at least you can’t accuse him of playing it safe.” the music publication writes.

The cover also reveals that, “more likely than not, Adam Lambert is actually an alien from a distant planet. Yes, that planet looks a little bit like it resulted from the collision of a Jem cartoon, The Neverending Story, Starlight Express, and K-Tel’s Power Glam Explosion […], but perhaps the extra-terrestrial has come to teach us something? Glam is back. Unicorns are real. And boring people are going to be zapped with giant lasers and turned immediately to dust.” the same publication says.

“For Your Entertainment,” colorful cover and all, drops in music stores this November.
