AdMob has revealed that it has served 1 billion mobile ads in the last six months, considerably more than the 30 million ads in the previous 6 months.

The mobile ad marketplace, AdMob enables advertisers to establish a connection with customers on the mobile web while at the same time providing the opportunity for publishers to monetize traffic on their mobile web sites. Advertisers can reach out to users across a set of mobile content channels, including news, entertainment, mobile communities and portals.

The US was the network's largest mobile web traffic contributor with 90 million page views per month, surprisingly followed by South Affrica. The UK placed fourth with a 12 percent share of the mobile web traffic and Romania on the fifth place with 5 percent.

The publishers on the network have been categorized into five content channels, with 'Communities' and 'Download' proving to record more traffic and be by far more popular than 'Portals', 'News and Information' and 'Entertainment'.

Omar Hamoui, CEO of AdMob, said: "The encouraging data point for the mobile web is not just the number of ads being served, but the pace at which things are growing. In our first six months, we only served about 30 million ads, and over the following six months we served one billion more."

"The mobile advertising industry really needs more transparency as well as accurate and actionable data. For the first time, we really feel that we have sufficient scale to develop some insight on the usage of the mobile web and we're determined to invest more time sharing this knowledge to help spur the growth of the industry as a whole." he said.

AdMob has also recorded the relative proportion of mobile phones that access the mobile web. Nokia gets top spot with 41 percent, followed by Motorola and Sony Ericsson on three.
