On April 7, actor Ezra Miller and several other young campaigners set off towards the North Pole. Their goal is to plant a capsule on the seabed beneath the Arctic, thus showing that this frozen region belongs to the people and must not be exploited by oil and gas companies.

“The trekkers are carrying with them a time capsule that contains a declaration with 2.7 million signatures calling for the Arctic to be made a global sanctuary.

“They plan to lower the capsule and a ‘Flag for the Future’ through 4.3 km of freezing water to the seabed beneath the North Pole,” Greenpeace explains on its official website.

While at the North Pole, these explorers hope to also have a meeting with members of the Arctic Council, who will also be present at the North Pole throughout the course of this week.

“This is a unique chance for us to talk with the people responsible for protecting the Arctic and we know our supporters around the world would want us to go for it,” 26-year-old Josephina Sterk commented with respect to this planned meeting with the members of the Arctic Council.

Here's hoping that more news concerning this expedition will soon come our way.
