The company doesn't like losing

Sports games are quite popular these days, even though they have been surpassed by the music genre. They capture the imagination of many gamers who are also sports fans and give them the impression of leading their favorite team or athlete to victory.

Without a doubt, one of the most successful companies is Electronic Arts, which, through its EA Sports label, has generated two of the biggest franchises in gaming, Madden NFL and FIFA, both of which enjoy a huge number of fans all around the world and generate a big amount of money every year they appear. Other important players in this genre are 2K Sports or THQ, which dominates fighting games with its WWE and UFC titles.

But another company that is interested in sports is behemoth Activision, which has expressed its interest through the voice of its president, Mike Griffith. He talked with IndustryGamers and revealed that there was a lot of competition so success wasn't that easy to achieve in this genre.

“It certainly has the characteristics of a category that would be interesting to us, but we would have to convince ourselves that we could enter successfully, accomplish leadership and that we'd have something new and different to bring to the party; right now the barriers to entry there are pretty significant, but it is certainly the size of a category that we would be interested in,” Griffith said.

With a lot of popular sports licenses already accounted by many companies, it would certainly be quite hard to see just what niche Activision would find in order to reach success. As you all know, the large corporation is only interested in gaining as much profit as possible so it won't enter the race with EA or 2K if it can't beat them at their own game.
