Both video game developer Bungie and publisher Activision Blizzard have been very tight lipped when it comes to the new project they are collaborating on, but fans of the company behind Halo will be happy to know that progress is being made at an incredible pace.

Despite the upbeat attitude neither of the two companies is ready to announce an official name for the video games or the exact genre it will occupy.

During the financial results announcement Activision stated that, “We continue to lay the foundation for our new universe from Bungie, one of the world's best developers.”

He added, “Bungie continues to make incredible progress on what we expect to be a genre-defining new IP that will provide us with tremendous new opportunities, and which remains one of our key strategic growth pillars for the future.”

Bungie has offered some teaser images and blurry images and it seems that it might be some time before the two companies deliver an official announcement, which might mean that a launch date set before 2014 is highly unlikely.

Bungie decided to split with former publishing partner Microsoft after it completed development of Halo: Reach but continued to handle the multiplayer side of the game for some time.

The Halo series will now be handled by 343 Industries, which will be in charge of the entire network infrastructure starting with April 1.

Bungie is very experienced when creating shooters that use a science fiction setting and it’s not clear whether the team is ready to exit its comfort zone and tackle a whole new genre.

Some rumors have suggested that the company is working on an MMO that includes first-person shooter elements, using a near future setting, with Activision planning to launch the game as a complement to the fantasy based World of Warcraft.
