The new Nintendo Wii U console definitely appeals to hardcore gamers, at least according to the boss of Activision's publishing division, Eric Hirshberg, who revealed that future Call of Duty titles will no doubt appear on the upcoming console.

The Nintendo Wii U, which was revealed during last week's E3 2011 conference, impressed lots of people with the promise of high-definition graphics, a brand new type of controller, as well as plenty of other robust features, similar to the ones offered by the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Activision's Eric Hirshberg is confident that the new console will be successful, saying to Industry Gamers that the device allows all publishers to bring the same type of content that was made for other platforms, without making any sacrifices.

"I think Nintendo’s an incredible company and it looks like this is a platform that’s going to be even more relevant to the kinds of games we make. They’re committing to HD, greater processing power, digital infrastructure, connected universe at the back end...Those are all the things we need to make a state of the art experience for a lot of games. So we were thrilled to hear their plans and I think that anyone that bets against Nintendo does so at their peril. They’re a pretty great company," he said.

The Activision executive noted that the company's internal teams are now tinkering with the Wii U technology, and trying to find out how to exploit it to its full capabilities, while drawing in players through their regular experiences.

In terms of Activision's massively successful Call of Duty series, the company will be careful when trying to bring it to the Wii U, especially since it needs to make sure the new controller and the features of the device complement the action on the screen.

"Call of Duty runs at 60 fps. It’s an incredibly precise game. It’s an incredibly smooth game. We still think the DualShock controller is the best way to deliver that game. But there are other games where new innovations make all the sense in the world. I was very excited about some of the things that I saw in the Wii U because I thought it was an innovative take on the next gen controller and the next gen console. I was really excited to see Nintendo taking their console into something that I think is going to be friendlier to core games," he said.

As you can see, besides publishers like Ubisoft, THQ or EA, Activision is also keen on bringing plenty of its new games to the Wii U when it is released next year.
