With both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour launched in 2008, Activision and Harmonix are set to devote the first half of 2009 to attracting more players to their games via downloadable songs and exclusive offerings, while in the second half of the year, Guitar Hero Metallica and a Beatles game from Harmonix will battle for supremacy.

Before the New Year Guitar Hero World Tour, gamers will be able to play songs from Hinder, Nickelback and Rev Theory, as “Use Me,” “Because of You” and “Light it Up” become available on December 23. Meanwhile, the game is set to receive no less than 20 new songs in January 2009.

Travis Barker, the very tattooed drum players that gained notoriety while playing with Blink-182, is set to launch a three song pack on January 15. The tracks featured are “What's My Age Again,” “Lycanthrope” and a remix of Flo Rida's hit “Low.”

On January 22, Guitar Hero will be on a trip to Australia to release a track pack including Silverchair's “Tomorrow,” “Dimension” from Wolfmother and “Outtathaway!” from The Vines. Each of the detailed track packs will be sold for 440 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live, and for 5.49 dollars on the PlayStation Network.

The biggest release of January 2009 will be Oasis' Dig Out Your Soul. Until now, only three singles from the album were playable in the game but Activision plans on releasing the remainder tracks on January 29. Players will be able to enjoy songs like “Bag it Up,” “Waiting for the Rapture,” “The Shock of the Lightning” and the other content of the album. The whole album will cost 1520 Microsoft Points or 18.99 dollars, depending on the platform. Those who only want one track to play around with should be ready to pay 1.99 dollars.
