Budcat joins the major corporation

Activision is currently the biggest game developer and publisher out there, overtaking Electronic Arts recently in terms of sales and games published. This made the major corporation quite proud and it said that it would continue to deliver the best games around, and, for this goal, it would make any investment necessary.

The company has quite a lot of titles in its portfolio, like Call of Duty or Doom, and after the recent merger with Blizzard, it gained access to franchises like Starcraft, Diablo and especially Warcraft, with the extremely popular, and profitable, World of Warcraft. Among the most successful titles in the current lineup of games for Activision is undoubtedly Guitar Hero.

The musical game is currently the best selling title in its genre and enjoys quite a lot of fans. As expected, Activision is really backing up the title, and it has recently announced that it has bought Budcat Creations, the developer of games like Blast Works, or Medal of Honor: Vanguard for the Nintendo Wii. Activision declared that this acquisition came to further expand the Guitar Hero lineup of games, but it made no other mention on what the studio would be working on.

"Budcat Creations is an outstanding developer with an experienced management team and a very talented group of programmers, designers and artists," said Mike Griffith, president and CEO of Activision. "In addition to strengthening our development capabilities on the Nintendo platforms, this acquisition increases our Guitar Hero development resources as we continue to grow the franchise and expand our global leadership position in the music-based genre."

A very interesting move from Activision and it’s clear that it doesn't want to lose the advantage it has over the main rival of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, so it is willing to make any acquisition necessary to keep the leading position on the music market. Let's just hope that this move will materialize in the same well-polished Guitar Hero games.
