Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that it will launch a new fan event centered around its most important first-person shooter franchise, called Call of Duty XP 2011, set to take part in Los Angeles on September 2 and 3 of this year.

Activision says that the new convention is designed to allow the most hardcore fans of the Call of Duty universe to meet with one another and with the various development teams involved in the future of the series.

More than 6,000 fans are expected to get to downtown Los Angeles in early September for Call of Duty XP 2011 and they will be able to play the multiplayer of the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 for the first time and also get hands on time with the survival cooperative mode that is being integrated in Spec Ops.

Tickets will sell for 150 dollars and all the revenue will be donated for the Call of Duty Endowment.

The full functionality of the Elite subscription-based service will also be revealed for the first time at the fan event.

Eric Hirshberg, who is the chief executive officer at Activision Publishing, has stated, “From the high production values of our live, immersive events – all the way to the smallest details in every design and activity – we’re pulling out all the stops to make Call of Duty XP the ultimate gathering for the global community of Call of Duty fans.”

He added, “The celebration will immerse attendees in a Call of Duty experience unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. Over the course of two days, gamers can trade Call of Duty war stories, experience the official unveiling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer and the full feature functionality of Call of Duty Elite, as well as enjoy world-class entertainment and compete head-to-head for some serious cash prizes.”

At the moment Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to be launched on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the PC and mobile devices during the fall of this year.
