Gamers can choose between US, Chimera and Cartel factions

The development team at Eugen Systems and publisher Focus Home Interactive are eager to show just how much the upcoming Act of Aggression is inspired by the classic titles in the real-time strategy genre and the two companies are delivering a new batch of images designed to underline the link.

The new game is designed to introduce three new factions which are battling for control of Earth in the near future and will have accessible mechanics for newcomers and plenty of depth for long-term fans of the RTS space.

The new concept art includes a first look at how both the United States Army and the Cartel will design their buildings, and some units are also included.

Act of Aggression is built around classic resource gathering and unit production, with gamers asked to secure territory before they take the fight to the enemy base.

Eugen Systems states, “Extend your base network with off-base refineries for harvesting resources, and protect supply networks ensuring a stable income of cash and minerals. You'll even fight other players for occupied banks as a supplementary income, and capture soldiers.”

Act of Aggression is both familiar and innovative

The most familiar faction in the new RTS will be the United States Army, which is depleted by constant combat and is now relying on the knowledge of its veteran units and the tech they can use to supplement their abilities.

Their main enemy is The Cartel, which is a shadowy organization that represents the future of the current Private Military Companies, which use fragile prototypes in combat and prefer dirty strikes to the classic engagement.

Finally, Act of Aggression will feature the Chimera, a special task force that has flexibility but needs to rely on a small number of units for all missions.

The team at Eugen Systems wants to give each faction a lot of personality and specific gameplay challenges.

The studio is at the moment best known for the work it has done on the Wargame series, which uses the core ideas of the real time strategy genre and is designed to feature realistic hardware and tactics that could have been used if World War III ever became reality.

Act of Aggression is clearly more focused on fantasy conflicts and it will be interesting to see if fans of the company will be ready to make the switch to a game that would not be out of place, when it comes to mechanics, in the ‘90s.
