Acronis has unveiled the latest version of its disk imaging and bare metal restoring solution, rebranded as Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, available immediately with prices ranging from $74 to $2400 US. The company noted that with the latest release it had managed to boost the scalability of the software but also to enhance the level of support for virtualized environments, addressing in this manner enterprise customers, small/medium organizations, as well as end users. The successor of Acronis True Image is designed to play nice with desktops and servers running both Windows platforms and Linux open-source operating systems.

“Acronis has expanded its market focus to better address the needs of large organizations while continuing to deliver unprecedented features and functions for small and medium-size companies,” revealed Jason Donahue, Acronis president and CEO. “Acronis is rebranding the entire product line to reinforce that Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 delivers significantly more capability than our already successful Acronis True Image family. At the same time, Acronis remains the industry’s easiest-to-use backup and recovery application.”

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 is designed to streamline backup and disaster recovery processes by automating the tasks needed, with support not only for physical environments but also for virtual machines. The promise from the company is that the version 10 release of its disaster recovery products permits PCs, workstations and servers to be recovered within minutes of a critical failure, provided of course that a backup is in place.

"IT buyers today are demanding that backup and recovery solutions deliver the value that comes from greater efficiency, manageability, and scalability," stated Dave Russell, research vice president, Gartner Inc. "The common denominator is that organizations, regardless of size, are striving to maximize the impact of their technology initiatives. They will require such important features as using one product for both virtual and physical backup, data deduplication for faster and more efficient backups, and the ability to manage every backup processes from a single console."
