A big secret revealed, but not confirmed

The biggest MMORPG in the world and one of the most beloved games ever released, World of Warcraft is preparing to get a major expansion with the release of the Wrath Of The Lich King - and it seems that Blizzard really plans to expand things, since it has apparently introduced a LotR-like achievement system.

Although no official confirmation of the news we're bringing to you has been given by the game developers, blog site deathknight.info snapped a handful of screenshots from the game directory. Apparently, the achievement list can be accessed by typing "/achievement" into the Wrath of the Lich King Alpha test.

As you can see in the screens below, there are quite a bunch of WoW achievements here and they will probably revive the game upon introduction. Not to mention that such a decision, if implemented well, could prove to be a great defensive measure against the rising star Age of Conan. But I guess we'll see for ourselves when the title gets released later this year.

"This expansion will add some of the most infamous characters and settings from the Warcraft universe to World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, when the Wrath of the Lich King was announced. "In addition to new story content, Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a number of features specifically requested by players over the past couple of years. We're looking forward to sharing further details with everyone as development progresses".

Since its launch in November 2004, World of Warcraft has been the world's most popular MMORPG, with more than 10 million players subscribed. The game's first expansion, The Burning Crusade, broke PC-game sales records in North America and Europe by selling nearly 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability and approximately 3.5 million copies in its first month. So, you understand why the details on achievements are so important. But, until it gets official, we can only check them out below:
