14 DAY TRIAL // Acer, one of the world's top leading vendors of portable computer systems, is expected to unveil a new series of professional Travelmate laptops, based on the company's CULV-powered Timeline series. The new models will be aimed at professional users, will boast a slim, ultraportable design and will come in choices of 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch form factors. They will also boast Intel's increasingly popular CULV platform for ultrathin laptops.
According to a recent news-article on Italian-language Notebook Italia website, Acer is planning to roll out a new Travelmate Timeline series, which will be available in 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch designs. Meant for professional users, these new CULV-powered systems will be built using a magnesium alloy chassis, anti-shock software and biometric security, basically everything you'd expect from a professional laptop. In addition, they will boast Intel's Laminar Wall Jet system, which will be available as the Acer Thermal Comfort technology, said to create a cushion of cool air in-between the laptop and the user.
As far as technical specifications go, users should expect a choice of Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 or Core 2 Duo SU9400 and SU9600 processors, while the system graphics will be handled by the integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics chip. In the graphics department, Acer fans will also have a choice for a discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics, a rather nice option for those looking for a bit more multimedia power out of their ultraportable PC.
The systems can support up to 8GB of RAM and also boast WiFi draft-N and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, as well as 3G HSPA. Users will be provided with several configuration options for each of the three laptops, including a choice for a high-capacity HDD or a fast SSD.
Prices are to start at €619 ($880) pre-tax, with the 13.3-inch model, which is already available in Europe. The other two systems are expected to become available in September, starting at €699 ($993) pre-tax.
