Acer has just hit the market with its brand new and good looking PMP (Portable Media Player) that features the famous game Sudoku and an e-book capability. Moreover, the Acer MP-340, in fact, a multi-functional disk-based MP3 player, comes with a rather nice finish, a big screen of no less than 1.8" TFT display and a SD/MMC card slot.

You can also record your voice while singing with this little know-it-all that sports a size of 95 x 65 x 20.6 mm and only 148 grams. Acer's latest PMP is able to support MP3s, WMA, JPEGs and ACV videos that you will be able to play on and on, no matter the size, because you can expand the storage capacity by getting a SD card.

"The Acer MP-340 includes a 1.8" 20GB non-removable hard drive and is suitable for listening to music as well as carrying it to your meetings for recording. With a hi-speed USB 2.0 connection, it's a breeze to transfer files to and from the device. The display is a TFT LCD at 160x128 pixel resolution offering 262k colors," writes Mobile Whack.

But Acer has lately become a headline, especially its notebook division, as it is expected to see its sales increasing to no less than eight million units in 2006, surpassing Toshiba with 7-8 million notebooks and 'ranking' the third place in the notebook sales top after Dell and HP.

"Statistics compiled by Gartner Dataquest show that Acer's worldwide notebook sales totaled 3.95 million units in the first half, compared to Toshiba's 4.11 million. Based on Acer's annual shipment ratio of 4:6 between the former and latter halves of the year, Acer is expected to sell 5.5-6 million notebooks in the second half of 2006, sources at Taiwan notebook makers said. The Taiwan vendor should manage to meet its full-year shipment goal of 10 million units, this year, according to the sources," reported DigiTimes.

However, Acer is the leading notebooks vendor in Europe, but is also threatened by HP, as the latter had only 3,000 units less than the Taiwan Company.
