Acer is turning to Chines OEMs in order to cut costs

Last week I told you that, after having a pretty lousy year, Acer remained hopeful it would manage to turn things around in 2014.

A company official stated that Acer was expecting to see its tablet shipments rise during the ongoing year, to a total 10 million units, which should translate into double the numbers it achieved in 2013. If the goal is a realistic one, we shall see as the year progresses.

In the meantime, rumor in Asia has it (via DigiTimes) that Acer will be turning to Chinese OEM partners for the production of its tablets, in order to cut on costs.

No official confirmation has come out of the company just yet, but Acer China President, Scott Lin, did mention there was a mature tablet supply chain in China, facilitated by the increased development of white-box vendors, so there might be room for Acer to do a little business here too.
