Asus’ Transformer Prime isn’t the only top-tier tablet out there to get an official Android 4.0 update anymore, as recently Acer has also started pushing out a new firmware based on Android 4.0.3 ICS to the recently released Iconia Tab A200.

When it introduced the A200 at the end of last year, Acer claimed that an update to Ice Cream Sandwich would follow soon, in February 2012.

The Taiwanese maker kept to its promise and recently, without previous notice, it has started to push out this new update to the A200 tablets out there.

According to Phandroid, the update is based on Android 4.0.3 and brings the firmware up to the Acer_AV041_A200_1.037.00_PA_CUS1 version.

This should be automatically reaching all the Iconia Tab A200 devices that have a working Internet connection, but one can also manually check for the update by going to Settings > About tablet > System update > Check now.

Acer’s Iconia Tab A200 tablet is built around an Nvidia Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device featuring dual processing cores at 1GHz, which is accompanied by 1GB of RAM.

Besides the on-board storage, the tablet also comes with an additional microSD card slot, which can be used to extend the total data storage capacity to 32GB.

Battery life is tipped at a maximum of eight hours, while for video conferencing duties Acer has also installed a front-facing 2MP camera (the A200 comes without a rear snapper).

All these are packed inside a case that weighs 700g (1.54 pounds), while the 10.1-inch display that Acer has used for this tablet has a native resolution of 1280x800 pixels.

The Iconia Tab is available for purchase right now in various countries around Europe, as well as in Australia with prices starting at 339 Euros, including VAT (about $445 US), for the 8GB version.

In the US, the 16GB model of the tablet was available from BestBuy for $349.99 (roughly 271 EUR) a couple of weeks ago, but it has gone out of stock since then.
