Acer started to move towards size-shrinking its desktop computer line with the new X1200 SFF featuring AMD dual core CPUs and Nvidia graphics, as well as attractive prices. The size-shrinking feature is well known for Acer, and the owners of the American computer maker Gateway started running their Eee line to desktops, the X1200 SFF being the first of the series. Although coming with shrunk size, the new device is able to offer all the power of a conventional desktop, but with gains in terms of space, noise reduction and affordability.

"Our innovative, low energy consumption desktop is a no-compromise solution providing desktop power, performance, and value in a compact form factor," said Stephanie Hatchel, Acer America's senior manager for retail desktops, in a statement. "Aspire X1200 was designed to be an appealing, easy to use media hub for making the most of entertainment."

X1200 SFF is only 10.4" tall, 4" wide and 14.4" deep. There will be a range of available configurations for the system, running up to AMD Athlon X2 500 processors with 4 GB of memory, but also with more energy-efficient setups with AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 4850e processors included.

Nvidia's GeForce 8200 graphics card with DirectX 10 support and PureVideo HD technology can also be added to X1200 SFF. The system features two PCI Express slots (X and X16), and a lot of expandability, with nine USB 2.0 ports (five in the front and four in the back), a 14-in-1 media card reader, a IEEE 1394 port, and front-mounted audio output. For storage, X1200 SFF features hard drives from 320 to 500 GB, as well as 16? dual-layer DVD burners. The system comes configured with Windows Vista Premium 64.

Acer has already made available two models of its X1200 SFF. They can be found at major retailers for prices set at $449.99 and $459.99. July 13 will bring us the third model of the system, which will also feature a 22-inch widescreen LCD display, and will have a suggested price of $699.99.
