Back in October 2009, Acer issued a recall for a number of Acer Aspire Timeline laptops that were manufactured before the 15th of September. Said models posed a fire hazard because of a microphone wire that was prone to short-circuiting, possibly causing unit deformation and malfunction. Now, Acer America has issued the same recall, only this time for about 22,000 models sold in the United States.

The company has issued a recall program for the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire Timeline laptop models AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. The list of products includes, specifically, only the notebooks that were manufactured in China and were sold in the US between June 2009 and October 2009. According to the company, these notebooks are likely to overheat, and even catch fire in extreme scenarios, in case pressure is repeatedly applied to the palm rest.

The issue is caused by the aforementioned problematic microphone wire, which passes under the palm rest itself. This wire poses a significant risk of short-circuiting, thus being the culprit behind the temperature issues. The company will be replacing the faulty microphone in all the mobile computers, thus removing the problem.

Among the nationwide retailers through which these laptops were sold are Amazon.com, SYX Distribution, Tech Data Corporation, D&H Distributing, Ingram Micro, ABS Computer Technologies, SED/American Express, Synnex Corporation, Radio Shack and Fry’s Electronics.

The recall order issued by the company in October 2009 dealt with the exact same laptop models, but those were sold throughout Europe.

Owners of the aforementioned Acer Aspire Timeline notebooks are advised to immediately stop using their devices and contact the company to see if they are included in the recall program. End-users may find information on www.acer.com or use the toll-free telephone number (866) 695-2237 to speak directly to company operatives at any time.
