It seems that ASUS is planning on being seriously active on the netbook front. The company had one of the largest stands at CeBIT, where it showcased a significant number of products, from the most discrete of gadgets to the most outrageous of top-tier motherboards and systems. Now, the PC maker is going even further with its development of new devices and is offering yet another item in the Eee PC lineup, known as the Eee PC 1001PX.

According to Notebook Italia, the new product has fairly similar specifications to most other netbooks based on the Intel pine Trail platform. The 1001PX has the regular 10.1-inch display, with a maximum resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, 1GB of RAM and the Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics.

The configuration is powered by the now well-known Intel Atom N450 central processing unit (CPU), which has a frequency of 1.66GHz. Also, the portable computer has its own memory card reader, built-in webcam, WiFi connectivity and 10/100 Ethernet.

Notebook Italia also states that the PC maker will be selling its new device in two versions. One runs Windows XP and comes with a three-cell battery and a hard disk drive of 160GB storage, enabling a battery life of up to 5 hours. The other version has 250GB storage, Windows 7 and a six-cell battery, for up to 9 hours of battery life. The former will be selling for 240 Euro, whereas the latter will have a price tag of about 300 Euro.

Since the actual performance numbers won't be all that different from most netbooks roaming the market right now, Sony decided to use a checkers’ design on the lid in order to make its new netbook eye-catching. According to the report, both configurations should reach Italy shortly.
