Acer's plans to become the world's leading vendor of portable computer systems appears to come to light, as the company is reportedly planning to launch a new notebook that will be equipped with a 3D display by the end of this October. The upcoming laptop brings about another innovation, namely the fact that users won't be required to use 3D glasses, as the entire 3D effect will be handled by a built-in software solution. In addition to said 3D notebook, Acer is also planning to launch its third-generation netbook, which will provide users with features similar to that of MIDs or smartbooks.

In a recent news-article for Digitimes, Campbell Kan, vice president of Acer's mobile computing business unit, has said that the company is working on a 15.6-inch 3D notebook that will be jointly developed with Wistron and is scheduled to arrive before the end of October 2009. Said system will sport built-in software that will convert regular 2D movies into 3D, while also supporting native 3D movies. This will enable users to enjoy the 3D visual experience without them being required to purchase additional 3D glasses.

According to Kan, the notebook will be equipped with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 operating system, which means that the official release will take place after October 22, when the OS is scheduled to arrive.

Aside from the aforementioned laptop, Acer is also planning to roll out a new netbook, which will be part of the company's third generation of netbook systems. No specific details have been made available on said machine, but it looks like users will be able to take advantage of the same features that are available in MIDs or smartbooks, namely strong network connectivity and portability. The netbook is scheduled to arrive in the second or third quarter of next year, by which time we should have more details on the matter.
