Acer has already presented its 2009 estimations regarding its highly successful Aspire One netbook, saying that it hopes to grab 50 percent of the market. However, following numerous rumors, the company has now officially mentioned the release of a 10-inch model based on the company's 8.9-inch Aspire One netbook. This netbook is slated to become available as soon as February or March next year.

The news comes to confirm Acer's ambitions regarding a market that has grown impressively over the past year, and is expected to continue to expand in the year to come. One of the reasons for the success of netbooks is that they provide the basics of a computer device inside a small form factor and with a price tag suitable for the currently low worldwide economy.

Acer's 10-inch Aspire One netbook has been confirmed by the President of company's Taiwan division, Scott Lin, who is quoted by Digitimes as saying that Acer was expecting to debut its first 10-inch netbook model sometime in February or March 2009. There were specific details given on the technical specifications of the upcoming 10-inch Aspire One, but it's likely we are talking about the same Intel Atom platform that has been featured in most 10-inch netbooks from the company's competitors, including ASUS, MSI or Lenovo.

Regarding the company's current 8.9-inch netbook, the 3.5G module-based Aspire One, Acer is expecting it to reach a shipment volume of 9,000 units in the Taiwan market in Q4 this year, according to Lin. Per Lin’s words, Acer is presently selling about 10,000-20,000 units monthly of its Aspire One product in Taiwan, while the consumer notebook business is said to reach 7,000-8,000 units monthly, also in Taiwan.

In addition, Acer is also planning the release of a 13.3-inch notebook and an all-in-one PC, which will be based on the company's Gateway sub-brand. These two systems will be showcased at the upcoming IT Month, a local promotional sales event.
