Today, computer maker Acer has officially announced a new large smartphone powered by Google’s Android operating system, namely the Acer Liquid S2.

The new device should be displayed at the IFA 2013 show in Berlin later this week, with a 6-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen display and a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside.

The handset also features a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which packs a highly appealing feature, namely support for 4K video recording.

Acer Liquid S2 is one of the first smartphones in the world to arrive on shelves with support for the recording of videos at such high quality.

As Pocket-lint notes, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note III, also a fairly large smartphone, is expected to come with 4K video recording capabilities as well, though no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

In addition to said specs, Liquid S will also land on the market with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as with 2GB of RAM packed inside, and with 16GB of internal memory.

Furthermore, the handset will sport the usual set of connectivity capabilities, including support for 4G LTE networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, a 3300mAh non-replaceable Li-polymer battery, GPS+GLONASS, and the entire range of sensors.

Acer’s new Liquid S2 runs under Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, and will hit shelves with the Float UI loaded on top.

The handset also features pre-loaded apps such as Acer HD Channel, Acer Docs and Acer Remote Files, Acer Data Traffic Manager, Acer Float Caller, Acer Float Apps (maps/notes/camera/calculator), Acer Live Screen, Acer Print, Acer Easy hotspot, Evernote, Polaris Office, and Swype text input.

The smartphone is said to measure 166 x 86 x 8.99 mm, and is set to become available for purchase starting with the end of October. No specific info on the phone’s pricing has been provided as of now.
